Tanjung Tinggi Beach, or recognized as Bilik Beach by local residents is a newest tourist destination in Bangka Belitung. The echo of its beach became more popular since a movie took a place for their setting in 2008. Laskar Pelangi and Sang Pemimpi were box office movies in Indonesia. Tanjung Tinggi Beach has white sand and decorated by hundred giant granite rocks with turquoise water and calm wave. Actually, its beach is a small bay 100 meter long and flanked by 2 peninsulas.  The granite rocks at Tanjung Tinggi area have few hundred cubic. The stack of the rock forms hills along the beach with alleys or small caves that makes the beach look so exotic. The most attractive spot in this place is the big rocks because the height can be 2 meters. And it is not easy to find any beach that has the same condition like that.

Location

Tanjung Tinggi Beach is situated at Keciput Village, Sijuk sub-district, Bangka Belitung Province or about 30 km from Tanjung Pandan city and 2 km from Tanjung Kelayang Beach. You can take a car or travel agent from Tanjung Pandan to Tanjung Tinggi Beach for an hour. The road is smooth because it has been constructed by local government. Along the road to Tanjung Tinggi Beach, you will through many beaches that will spoil your eyes. Started from Tanjung Binga Beach, you will see that most of residents are fishermen. They process salty fishes and make as local product.

After that, you will through Tanjung Kelayang which was become a location of Sail Indonesia. Then, you will arrive at Tanjung Tinggi Beach. Its beach is one of the best places in West Belitung because the beach is clean with exotic panorama. Overall, the access to the beach is good. That is why the beach becomes a perfect place to relax and spend your holiday with your family or friends. This place is also suit for honey moon to newlywed. 

Activities

When you arrive at Tanjung Tinggi Beach, you can admire the big rocks and big trees around the granite rocks. The root of trees spread under the surface of the rocks and come into the sand. The shape of its beach is just like a crock with white sand in the middle and surrounded by the rocks that juts into the sea. The white sand in the beach is so smooth for your legs. Sometimes, you can see crabs running fast on the sand and dig it.

Visitors who come to the beach can do many activities, such as playing white sand or just swimming in the clean and calm water. You also can pass alleys among hundreds granite rocks, or climb the rock to enjoy scenery of Tanjung Tinggi. The granite rocks are not slippery, so it will be easy to climb it. From above, you will enjoy the view of sea with clear and clean water. The nuance will be more romantic when you come on sunrise or sunset. With clear water, you can snorkel there or just sit on the soft sand. The coral reefs there are so beautiful and still original.

When you come to Tanjung Tinggi Beach, you don’t need to worry about food because there are food stalls that provide you seafood or local menu. For seafood, most of food stalls provides you fresh fishes. You also can taste lobster, crab, squid, and clam. Those food stalls are managed by residents in Tanjung Tinggi Village. The food stalls are exists along the beach with simple tables and chairs. But it is comfortable to sit there while enjoy the breeze of air and drink young coconut.

In fact, the movie of Laskar Pelangi has been improves the visitors to come to Tanjung Tinggi Beach. With great potential condition, local government should improve and develop new infrastructure and features to make tourist more comfortable to enjoy the beach, such as banana-boat because it will increase economic condition. They can bring the name of Tanjung Tinggi Beach as an icon of Tanjung Pandan City.

Babi Island, Snorkeling Around Granite Rocks in Bangka Belitung

Babi Island or Pig Island or called as Kelayang Island is a beautiful island adjacent to Lengkuas Island at Bangka Belitung Province. Even, you can see its island clearly from Lengkuas and vice-versa. Babi Island has white sand with granite rocks, palm trees, grassland and become one of tourist destination in Belitung Island. The island is situated at northern Belitung Island, not too far from Tanjung Kelayang Beach or Tanjung Tinggi and it will take 20 to 30 minutes. There are two stories of Babi Island. First, long time ago there was a pig farming and the second version said if there was a big granite rock resemble to a pig.

That is why people call the island as Babi Island. But, if you come there, you will never see any pig. Actually the Babi Island has 2 islands, Big Babi Island and Small Babi Island, where these islands are adjacent to one another. With beautiful scenery, it will be so much easy for you to find fishes swimming around the reef and visitors love to stay longer in the island. Unfortunately, there are few facilities to support visitors because it is an inhabitant island. 

To reach Babi Island, you can start it from town about 24 km. You can hire a car from a hotel or guesthouse in Tanjung Pandan ranging from IDR250.000 – IDR350.000 or US$26 – US$35 per day. You can choose a driver or without a driver. Then, you can go straight to Tanjung Kelayang or Tanjung Tinggi. These beaches are place to berth motor ship. If you want to hire motor ship, you have to pay around IDR300.000 – IDR400.000 or US$31 – US$41 per group. These prices are not included lifejacket or snorkeling equipment. So, if you go to Babi Island with your friends, the price will be cheaper. When you arrive in the island, don’t be surprise when you read a plank written Pulau Kepayang. 

Strolling in the Babi Island is an activity you must do before you jump into the water. There, you also can see so many big granite rocks. With various shapes, you can interpretation those shapes because they are so familiar to our daily life, such as head of whale, peach, and many more. Actually, Baby Island becomes one of alternative place to stay in Belitung. There are many rooms with stilt houses and a restaurant of the coast and also outbound area. The most favorite activity is snorkeling because visitors can see various fishes in the shallow water. But the fishes tend to shy and not aggressive. 

After snorkeling, you can go to Gosong Island. The island is consist sand dune in the middle of ocean and standing alone. If the tide of water high the island will disappear. If you lucky, you can find starfish there. If you want to see other views of Babi Island, you can climb the big granite rocks. From above, you can enjoy many small islands in Tanjung Kelayang. You will feel like in Raja Ampat in Papua. Your adventure in Babi Island becomes unforgettable moment because you can do many things there.

Lengkuas Island, Favorite Destination to Enjoy Granite Rock in Belitung

Lengkuas Island is favorite destination in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province, Indonesia nowadays. This is one of island among hundreds islands that surround Belitung Island. This is really a fantastic island for you who love to do marine tourism. The main attraction in the island is an old lighthouse built by Dutch colonial government in 1882. The good thing is the lighthouse still work to guide traffic of ship that through or in and out of Belitung Island.

Actually, Lengkuas Island is situated northern of Tanjung Kelayang Beach at Sijuk sub-district, Belitung Regency. The panorama in the island is so beautiful featured by lot of granite stones, white sand and clear water. The shallow water enables you to peep what underwater clearly. With the depth 1.2 meter you can see fishes swimming around you.

To reach the island, it takes around 20 minutes by boat from Tanjung Kelayang or Tanjung Binga. From the seaside of Belitung to Lengkuas Island will take 30 – 45 minutes. The boat can be boarded by 30 – 40 passengers. You have to pay IDR350.000 or US$36. But, if you hire with your friends, the price will be cheaper. The best time to visit Lengkuas is from March to November. 

During those times, the wave of water tends to calm so that you can enjoy your journey by boat. Or, you can snorkel and swimming in the clear water. When you come from December – January, you probably will face the rain all day long and the wave of water is high. Facilities in Lengkuas Island are complete, such as toilet, parking place, food stall with drinking water, or even souvenir stall. 

This lighthouse has 12 floors and 50 meters heights. All visitors are free to come up but it little bit tough and you will need extra energy. But, your effort worth it because from above you will be able to see beautiful views, 360⁰ around the island. Do not forget to bring your camera because you will regret losing this panorama. 

Actually, there are only 3 persons who live in Lengkuas Island and they work as operator of lighthouse. They are so friendly to visitors. After you satisfied to see wonderful scenery from above, then you can come down to relax and feel the atmosphere of beach. The wind blows so fresh and you can sun-bathing or just sitting on the white sandy there. 

Between Lengkuas Island and fishery pier in the Tanjung Binga, there is an island named Burung Island. Along your journey to Lengkuas Island, you will through its island which is has wider size, white sandy on southern side and granite rocks on northern side. Usually, visitors would stop there for a while during their trip home from Lengkuas to Tanjung Binga. The main attraction is granite rock that has shape resembles to a bird, and that is why people recognize this island as Burung Island.

Actually, there is no guesthouse or motel in Lengkuas Island. If you want to spend your time longer, you can look guesthouse around Tanjung Kelayang. You have to take a boat for 20 minutes. But, if you want to feel something challenging, you can build a camp there. Just prepare your equipments first before you come. First of all, you need to ask permission to the lighthouse officer.
