Pok
Tunggal Beach is the new destination tourism in Yogyakarta. The area of the
beach is smaller than Sundak Beach. The beach challenges you to climb up to the
cliffs to see the whole beauty of the beach from the height. As a new beach,
you still can see the development in many areas. As you come here, you will see
the icon of Pok Tunggal Beach, i.e. a Duras Tree that grows very shady at the
edge of the beach.
The
area of Pok Tunggal Beach is flanked by two hills that have been developed as
tourism area. The west of the beach is called as Tirta Pok Tunggal Asri Hill
and the east of the beach is called as Panjong Hill. Each gate of the hills has
charity box. You can donate your money to develop the area of the beach.
Location
Pok
Tunggal Beach lies at Tepus Village, Tepus sub-district, Gunungkidul Regency,
Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. The location is right to Watu Lawang Beach and
Seruni Beach. It takes around 1.5 – 2 hours by motorcycle from Yogyakarta City.
Actually, there are many ways to visit the beach.
Firstly,
you can take public transportation. Actually, there is no public transportation
that takes you directly to the beach. Thus, after you arrive at Wonosari
Terminal, you can take taxi motorcycle or ojek.
Secondly,
you can take motorcycle or a car. If you start your journey from Yogyakarta,
the route is Yogyakarta – Piyungan – Patuk Sambipitu – direction to Bunder
Forest – Gading – Logandeng – Siyono – Bundaran Tugu BPD – Kyai Legi Street –
South Ring Roud Street – KRT Djojohiningrat Street – Girisubo Street – Wonosari
– Saptosari Street – Tepus – Pok Tunggal Beach.
Thirdly,
you can take a route from Yogyakarta – Imogiri – Panggang – Saptosari – Tepus –
Follow the route to Baron Beach – before the fork to Baron Beach, you can take
a left to Indrayanti Beach – at the fork to Indrayanti Beach Area, you have to
take left and follow the asphalt road – Retribution Post – several meters at
the right road there is signpost to Pok Tunggal Beach – follow the trail to the
location. The beach has peculiar sign, i.e Duras Tree at the right gate.
Accommodations
Around
Pok Tunggal Beach, you can find food stalls that sell various food, drinking
and rental tent and umbrella. Besides, there is toilet that can be used after
you play water. For parking vehicles, you will be charged IDR2,000 or US$0.2
for motorcycle, IDR5,000 or US$0.5 for a car, and IDR15,000 or US$1.5 for
minibus. If you want to rent umbrella beach, you have to pay IDR20,000 or US$2
and dome tent IDR60,000 or US$6.
Activities
Pok
Tunggal Beach offers you the beauty of natural scenery. The stretches of white
sand and blue wave water approach the coastline. You can play waves and take a
picture as you are there. One thing that you may not miss as you visit Pok
Tunggal is taking picture under Duras Tree. This is an icon of the beach and
according to the story of local residents it is not easy to find the tree in
other places. That is why they keep the tree very well.
The
other attraction of Pok Tunggal Beach is the line of cliffs that standing
strongly and looks like a fortress that protects the beach. The height is
around 50 meters and it can be developed to be a rock climbing sport. Off
course it needs extra adrenaline and courage to conquer the rock.
According
to local resident, there are wild primate lives, i.e. wild monkey. They live at
the east of the cliff. In Pok Tunggal Beach, you also will find a source of
water. It possibly comes from the underground of river that is limestone area.
If
you want to stay longer, you can build a camp or dome camp. You will have
chance to see the sunset and sunrise in the morning. But, if you decide to
leave at night, you have to be careful because the access is without lighting, rocky
and slippery.
