When you hear about Keramas Beach, you may
think it’s a funny name. Keramas in
Indonesian means washing your hair with shampoo. It makes sense why people call
it keramas since the waves and the whitewater hit the rocks along the edge of
the beach. However, the original name of the beach was Kuramas, means Golden turtle. Turtles used
to lay eggs and bury them in the warm black sand. Later, the name changed into
Keramas, which means Golden Monkey.
There used to have been many monkeys in the beach. However today, there are not many monkeys left.
Where and why the monkeys were gone remain a mystery.
