Misool Island and Its Exotic Scenery in Raja Ampat


Misool Island is one of the main islands in Raja Ampat Archipelago, West Papua. The area of this island is about 2,034 km². Its highest point is 535 m. The main town of this island is Waigana. Misool has an outstanding panorama, ranging from coral reefs to exotic flora and fauna. The sea around the island is home of thousands species, such as harlequin shrimp and pygmy seahorses. The depth of the ocean ranges from 5 to 40 m. The beach is also beautiful. You will see some kind an amusing marine park as the island consists of rocks extending to the west along the eastern section.

Location
          Misool Island is situated in Raja, Ampat, West Papua Province. To reach the island, you can fly from Domme Eduard Osok Airport in Sorong. Having arrived at this island, you can then explore it by boat. The main transportation of this island is sea transportation. There are many boats available for you to go around and explore this beautiful island. There are also a tour packages to lead you into thorough exploration of this island. If you decide to stay at Misool Eco Resort, transportation will not be a big problem for since the resort provides you a private speedboat. With the speedboat, you can spend your time enjoying the beauty of this exotic island.  

Activities
          The main activities you can do in Misool Island is marine activities, such as diving and snorkeling. The two activities will give you the most exciting experience as the underwater life of the island is so amazing. The underwater life is like a paradise for those who have a chance to see it with their own eyes. There are many rare species found in this island, such as Manta Ray, turtles and seahorses. If you can dive or snorkel you don’t need to worry. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the underwater life from the boat. Even the crystal clear of the sea water allows you to see at the depth of 25 m. Apart from marine activities, you can also visit the place when various paintings such as fish, hands called petroglyph are found. The beautiful paintings are dated from 5,000 years ago. The location is quite remote, i.e. inside the labyrinth of lagoon and limestone rocks.  

Accommodations
          You can stay in one of hotels, lodges or even resorts on the island. You can also stay at local people’s house. However, most tourists prefer to stay at Misool Eco Resort. This resort is very luxurious and it becomes some kind of icon of this island. The resort commits to help the government preserve the area, and therefore the guests are limited, i.e. it only receives 32 guests only. In addition, the resort establishes No-Take Zone extending an area of 1,220 km². No fishing activities are allowed, especially those using dangerous equipment. Other activities considered to be dangerous are also not allowed.
          The Island is known for its beauty. Once you have visited the island, you will feel like you are in heaven. You’ll see the most beautiful scenery you have never seen in your life. Hence, include Misool Island in your travel plan when visiting Raja Ampat.
